The LA Clippers have had several prolific scorers throughout their history, but two players dominate their all-time single-season points-per-game leaderboard. Here are the top five:
1. Bob McAdoo, 1974-75 – 34.5 PPG
McAdoo played for the Clippers when they were the Buffalo Braves. The second overall pick in the 1972 Draft, he won Rookie of the Year after averaging 18.0 points and 9.1 rebounds. His best scoring season came in 1974-75 when he led the NBA with 34.5 points per game, also contributing 14.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 2.1 blocks en route to winning MVP.
2. Bob McAdoo, 1975-76 – 31.1 PPG
Following his MVP season, McAdoo again led the NBA in scoring with 31.1 points per game. He made his third straight All-Star team and finished second in MVP voting. Playing 43 minutes per game across 78 games, he also averaged 12.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.1 blocks.
3. Bob McAdoo, 1973-74 – 30.6 PPG
McAdoo’s breakout year saw him average 30.6 points, marking his first season over 30 PPG. He led the league in scoring for the first time, earned his first All-Star selection, and finished second in MVP voting.
4. World B. Free, 1979-80 – 30.2 PPG
Originally drafted by the 76ers in 1975, Free joined the San Diego Clippers in 1978. In 1979-80, he made his only All-Star appearance while averaging 30.2 points, second in the NBA behind George Gervin (33.1). Free led the league in free-throw attempts (11.2) and makes (8.4) per game, shooting 75.3% from the line and 47.4% from the field.
5. World B. Free, 1978-79 – 28.8 PPG
In his first season with the Clippers, Free’s minutes jumped to 38 per game, helping him average 28.8 points and finish sixth in MVP voting. He ranked second in the NBA in scoring behind Gervin (29.6). Over his two seasons with the Clippers, Free averaged 29.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
