Atlanta continued to make offseason moves, this time with a Draft-night trade that sends the 13th overall pick , Derik Queen, to New Orleans.

The Hawks received the rights to the 23rd overall pick, Asa Newell, and an unprotected 2026 first-round pick (best from New Orleans or Milwaukee) from the Pelicans for Queen.

Pelicans receive:

  • Derik Queen (No. 13 overall)

Hawks receive:

  • Asa Newell (No. 23 overall)
  • 2026 first-round pick (most favorable of New Orleans or Milwaukee)

Atlanta’s latest deal comes after reportedly acquiring center Kristaps Porziņģis from Boston in a three-team trade that also included the Brooklyn Nets. Newell has been compared with former NBA forward Paul Millsap, who played four seasons in Atlanta.

New Orleans, meanwhile, acquires the versatile Queen to shore up its frontcourt. The 6-foot-9 freshman averaged 16.5 points, 9 rebounds and 2.2 combined steals and blocks in his lone season at Maryland. Queen isn’t known for his outside shot or shot-blocking, but was a productive inside presence who draws comparisons to Houston’s Alperen Sengun.

The Pelicans used the 23rd pick, which they acquired from Indiana last week, to help complete the trade. New Orleans has also agreed to a reported trade to acquire veteran guard Jordan Poole from Washington in exchange for CJ McCollum.
