Norman Powell scored 41 points on Thursday as the LA Clippers beat the Utah Jazz.
Norman Powell has been one of the best under-the-radar storylines in the first half of the NBA season. Powell’s PPG has spiked from 13.9 last season to 24.2 PPG, which is one of the biggest year-over-year jumps in the NBA.
Simply put, Powell is having the best season of his career in 2024-25. Powell opened the current season as a starter due to the knee injury that kept Kawhi Leonard sidelined for the first few weeks of the campaign. However, Powell has kept his place in the starting unit even with Leonard back in the mix and has been one of the Clippers’ most reliable offensive weapons.
Through 45 starts and 33.6 minutes per game this season, Powell’s 24.2 PPG mark is a new career high. He’s also shooting 49.6 percent from the floor and an excellent 42.8 percent from three-point range. To put things into context, Powell heads into the All-Star break ranking 18th in the league in points per game.
The list of stars Powell is currently outsourcing may surprise you. He’s scoring at a better rate than players such as Donovan Mitchell, Zach LaVine, Stephen Curry and Jaylen Brown.
His growth this season has been one of the best success stories of the season.
Powell finished the first half of the season in style, as he contributed 41 points and three rebounds in 46 minutes during Thursday’s 120-116 overtime victory over the Utah Jazz. If he can keep these numbers going after the All-Star break, then the Clippers would be a team to watch in the postseason race with Powell as a strong third option alongside James Harden and Leonard.
