Payton Pritchard’s breakout campaign further cemented him as a key part of the Celtics’ future.
The winner of the Kia Sixth Man of the Year was announced Tuesday, with Celtics guard Payton Pritchard taking home the honor. He was the fourth player in Celtics history to win the award. Let’s discuss Pritchard’s stellar campaign and what his fantasy value could be moving forward.
Season Recap
Pritchard appeared in all 82 games for the Celtics in 2023-24, averaging 9.6 points across 22 minutes per game. In the playoffs, he averaged 6.4 points and shot 41.9% from the field during their playoff run, which culminated with the Celtics winning a championship.
Pritchard started the 2024-25 season on a high note, averaging 16.2 points across the first 13 games. He shot 47.6% from the field during that span, including 42.7% from behind the arc. The most notable stat from that stretch was that he averaged 29 minutes per game.
The Celtics hope to make another long playoff run this season. In order to do so, they needed to find a way to keep their veterans fresh. They attempted to do so by giving Pritchard more playing time. He finished the season averaging 28 minutes per game. Another plus for the team and fantasy managers was that he appeared in 80 games. He didn’t let his added opportunities go to waste, averaging 14.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.2 3-pointers per game. His scoring contributions came in efficient fashion, considering that he shot 47.2% from the field, 40.7% from behind the arc and 84.5% from the free-throw line.
2025-26 Fantasy Outlook
Pritchard’s breakout campaign further cemented him as a key part of the Celtics’ future. Regardless of the surrounding roster, Pritchard is likely to remain a valuable fantasy option. Jrue Holiday will also be 35 years old and entering his 17th season in the league. The Celtics have already reduced his playing time this season to 31 minutes per game after averaging 33 minutes last season. Potentially coming off back-to-back seasons with deep playoff runs would likely set up Holiday to have his minutes remain slightly reduced.
Pritchard’s ADP was outside the top 150 this season. However, he finished ranked inside the top 100. While not a great source for rebounds or defensive stats, his 3-point shooting can help him provide an offensive spark for fantasy managers. Those in category leagues can also be aided by his improved shooting percentages. For those looking to target Pritchard in drafts next season, be prepared to take him inside the top 100.
