Malcolm Brogdon announces retirement after nine seasons

A nine-year NBA veteran, Brogdon was the 1st player drafted outside the first round to win Kia Rookie of the Year since 1966.

Malcolm Brogdon spent 9 seasons in the NBA and was a Kia Rookie of the Year and Kia Sixth Man of the Year winner.

After nine NBA seasons, Malcolm Brogdon has decided to retire from basketball, he announced Wednesday.

“Today, I officially begin my transition out of my basketball career,” Brogdon told ESPN in a statement. “I have proudly given my mind, body and spirit to the game over the last few decades. With the many sacrifices it took to get here, I have received many rewards.

“I am deeply grateful to have arrived to this point on my own terms and now to be able to reap the benefits of my career with my family and friends. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all who have had a place in my journey.”

The Knicks also announced Brogdon’s decision with a posting on social media congratulating him on his retirement.

 

Brogdon, 32, was a second-round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2016. He won the Kia Rookie of the Year award in 2017 and later played for Indiana, Boston, Portland and Washington. He signed with the Knicks on Sept. 15 and was on track to make the team’s opening night roster.

Brogdon won the Kia Sixth Man of the Year award in 2022-23 while playing for the Celtics. He averaged 15.3 points in 463 games.

Over 436 career games, Brogdon averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds in 29.1 minutes per game.
