Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the West-leading Thunder defeated the Grizzlies 114-100 on Sunday. 

What we know about Sunday’s slate

 

  • The Knicks take the battle of NY, earning a dominant, 134-98 win over the Nets after leading wire-to-wire.
  • The Thunder outscored the Grizzlies by 25 points in the second half and rolled to a 114-100 victory, and are now an impressive 10-1 on the season. Reigning Kia MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was clutch down the stretch in securing the victory and finished with 35 points.
  • Two of the top young point guards in the league squared off when Cade Cunningham and the Pistons visited Tyrese Maxey and the 76ers. Although Maxey scored 33 points and added 7 assists, it was the Pistons, led by 24 second-half points from Cade Cunningham, that picked up the 111-108 victory.

  • Karl Anthony Towns: 28 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Gobert smash

The Timberwolves have been all over the Kings tonight, and that’s started with Ruby Gobert. He’s owned the paint tonight on both ends, scoring 19 points on 9-for-10 shooting. He also has 12 boards and 5 blocks, and a large hand in holding Domantas Sabonis to a 5-for-17 shooting night.

Minnesota is well on its way to 6-4, holding a 126-100 lead over Sacramento with five to go.

Put a bow on it

The Warriors dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Pacers 39-18. They let the bench finish it off, and gave us this Trayce Jackson-Davis flush.

In the end, Golden State came out ahead 114-83, moving to 6-5 on the season, while the Pacers fell to 1-9.

Butler does it

Butler continues to be the man for the Warriors tonight with Curry sidelined.

The veteran has put 21 points on the board on 10-for-15 shooting, and also grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 7 assists. He also has 2 steals and a block.

Golden State is on its way to victory, up 96-76 over the Pacers with just over 6 minutes remaining in the contest.

Cade poster in the clutch

Cunningham had an electric second half, scoring 24 of his 26 points in the final two frames, and no other scene captures his impact down the stretch better than this.

Cade’s performance helped seal the win for Detroit, 111-108 over Philadelphia. They are now 8-2 after picking up their sixth straight victory and remain atop the East.

Third-quarter Cade

The Pistons were down 10 to start the second half, but Cunningham, who had 2 points at the break, has emerged.

He now has 19 points and 9 assists, bringing the Pistons all the way back, and they now lead 88-85 to start the final quarter.

This Paul Reed reverse finish is also worth a look.

Rudy Go-coast-to-coast

Rudy Gobert is known for his work in the paint on both ends. He doesn’t normally do much in between, but shows here that he can still handle and get downhill.

First, he gets the block, then picks up the loose ball, then takes it all the way to the rim for two.

The Timberwolves lead the Kings 16-14, near the midpoint of the first quarter.

Banging the drum

Andre Drummond has been called upon to man the middle with Joel Embiid out tonight for the 76ers, and he’s getting it done for Philly.

The big man has 14 points and 9 rebounds, and shows he can still get up, finishing the alley-oop lob from Maxey.

The 76ers are up, 72-66 over the Pistons, over four minutes into the second half.

Let’s go for a spin

We’re nearing halftime in Philadelphia, and the 76ers have a 6-point advantage over the Pistons.

Coming in, the spotlights were on Cade Cunningham and Tyrese Maxey, but it’s been others doing most of the damage for their respective teams. Others, like Quentin Grimes, who has scored 10 off the bench, including this bucket off the spin around Caris LeVert.

That’s why he is the Kia MVP

Gilgeous-Alexander was key down the stretch for the Thunder, and they rolled all the way back to beat the Grizzlies, 114-100.

The reigning Kia MVP finished with 35 points and added 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals to the stat line.

Chet Holmgren and Ajay Mitchell each added 21 for OKC, while Hartenstein earned a double-double, scoring 18 and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Jaren Jackson Jr. led the Grizzlies with 17 points.

We got a tight one in Orlando, as their battle with Boston heads to the final frame.

The Magic lead 80-78, but it’s Jaylen Brown putting on a show, scoring 21 points, including this ferocious finish for two.

Thunder roars back

Oklahoma City outscored Memphis 34-18 in the third quarter and has closed the gap against the Grizzlies, and now leads 93-81 early in the fourth.

Part of the surge is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finding the bottom of the net often. He now has 26 points.

Knicks crushing

The Knicks are getting it done against the Nets, and doing so emphatically, just like this dunk from Mitchell Robinson,

New York has outscored Brooklyn 35-17 in the third quarter and now enters the fourth with a 112-79 lead.

Trio of games enter halftime

We had three games tip off near 6 ET, and all three are now at the break.

The Magic got off to a hot start, but the Celtics have fought back, thanks to 25 points off the bench from a red-hot Anfernee Simons, who has shot 8-for-11. They’re now knotted up at 54 in Orlando.

Memphis continues to lead over Oklahoma City, and has an 11-point advantage after two, 62-51. Cedric Coward’s 11 points off the bench lead the squad,

In the battle for NY, the Knicks have a 77-62 lead over the Nets.

Michael Porter Jr. leads all scorers with 22, while OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns each have 14 for the Knicks.

Grizzlies roaring

Memphis is off to a hot start and has built a 19-point lead on the defending champs, with a 53-34 lead over the Thunder at the midpoint of the second quarter.

At the root of the success is their ball movement, as they now have 18 assists on 20 made field goals. Leading the way there, none other than Ja Morant. He has 6 feeds, including this sweet no-look dish to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Magic trio connects

Orlando has had a bit of a slow start to the season, but the ball movement here, and plays like this between Paolo Banchero, who gets the board, then feeds Franz Wagner, and pushes it to Desmond Bane for the lay-in, is more like what they have had in mind this season.

The Magic lead the Celtics 23-12 past the midpoint of the first quarter.

Sengun secures victory

In case you were wondering, Alperen Sengun is worth the hype.

He does it all here, taking it full court, with a trip through the spin cycle, and still gets the tough and-1 finish.

Sengun posted 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists in the Rockets’ 122-15 win over the Bucks.

Kevin Durant led Houston’s offensive effort with 31 points on 11-for-15 shooting, and also threw in 5 dimes.

Giannis led all scorers with 37 in the loss for Milwaukee.

Smooth stepping in transition

Freight trains can have smooth moves, too. If you need evidence, all you need to do is watch Giannis show off the pretty Euro step going downhill and finishing with the one-handed slam.

The Bucks trail by 2, though, 115-113, with 1:29 to go in the game.

Action is tight in Milwaukee

The fourth quarter is underway at the Fiserv Forum, and each team’s top star is shining and rattling the rim.

For the Rockets, it’s Kevin Durant who is delivering, scoring 24 points on an ultra-efficient 9-for-13 shooting, including this soaring one-handed slam.

It’s none other than Giannis Antetokounmpo supplying the Bucks with the most buckets, on his way to 29 points.

Milwaukee currently leads, 92-88 with 9:10 to go in the game.
