Live Updates: Pistons Beat Timberwolves and Thunder Throttle Lakers on Prime

What We Know After Thursday’s Games

-Pistons Defeat Timberwolves on Prime: Detroit rode an 18-3 run to defeat Minnesota in a close-fought battle. There were seven ties and 11 lead changes in total. Dannis Jenkins led the team with 26 points while Jalen Duren recorded a double-double.

-Hornets Blow Out the Suns With 3-Point Records Being Set: Charlotte has been blowing teams out over the last two months, and they had another one here. Kon Knueppel and Colin Gillespie both set franchise records with 3-pointers made in a season in that matchup.

-Thunder Throttle the Lakers on Prime: Oklahoma City is the defending champs, and they showed why here. They led by 46 points at times in this blowout victory, while maintaining a 20-point lead for the final three quarters.

 

Top Performers of the Night

-Jrue Holiday had 27 points, five rebounds and nine assists in a win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

-Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accrued 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a blowout victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

-Julius Randle registered 27 points, six rebounds and six assists in a loss to the Detroit Pistons.

-Jalen Duren totaled 22 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

-Donovan Mitchell tallied 25 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in a victory against the Golden State Warriors.

-De’Aaron Fox finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in a win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

-Kawhi Leonard collected 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals in that defeat.

Spurs Defeat Clippers, 118-99

The Spurs have won 27 of their last 29 games.

San Antonio got out to a 68-44 first half, and Los Angeles couldn’t recover after that.

The Spurs shot 53 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range while holding the Clippers to 43 percent from the field and 19 percent from long range.

De’Aaron Fox led the Spurs with 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Cavaliers Defeat Warriors, 118-111

Cleveland clinched a playoff spot with this victory.

There were 11 ties and seven lead changes in this game, but Cleveland led for most of it.

The Cavaliers shot 51 percent from the field and 44 percent from 3-point range.

Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley both recorded double-doubles.

Gui Santos and Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors with 25 points apiece.

Trail Blazers Defeat Pelicans, 118-106

Portland rode a 58-41 second half to this victory.

The Trail Blazers shot 20-for-51 from 3-point range while the Pelicans shot just 9-for-24.

Jrue Holiday had 27 points, five rebounds and nine assists.

Deni Avdija amassed 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Jeremiah Fears led the Pels with 21 points, two rebounds, two steals and two blocks off the bench.

Thunder Defeat Lakers, 139-96

Oklahoma City led by at least 20 points for the final three quarters of this game, getting their lead up to 46 points.

It was LA’s worst loss of the season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t play the final quarter, but he still finished with 28 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

No Lakers player had more than 15 points.

Spurs Lead Clippers at the Half, 68-44

This was a dominant opening half by San Antonio, and it was emphasized with this final shot at the buzzer.

San Antonio shot 64 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range.

They also doubled up the Clippers in assists, 18-9.

De’Aaron Fox has 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Thunder Lead Lakers After 3Q, 112-67

Yes, that’s the real score, and the champs came to play.

This is the Lakers largest deficit of the season.

OKC is shooting 53 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range.

They’re also winning the turnover battle, 15-6.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is likely done for the night, but he has 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Pelicans Lead Trail Blazers at the Half, 65-60

New Orleans is shooting 51 percent while holding Portland to 42 percent.

Deni Avdija leads the Blazers with 17 points, three rebounds and four assists.

Jeremiah Fears leads the Pelicans with 14 points off the bench.

Spurs Lead Clippers After Q1, 33-25

In the final game of the night, San Antonio has a road lead in LA.

The Spurs shot 70 percent from the field in that opening frame while the Clippers were 1-for-8 from 3-point range.

De’Aaron Fox has eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

Kawhi Leonard collected 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Blazers Lead Pelicans After Q1, 35-32

The Pelicans are shooting 52 percent while the Blazers are shooting 46 percent.

Scoot Henderson got the start for Portland and leads the team with 10 points.

Saddiq Bey leads New Orleans with 10 points.

Cavs Lead Warriors After Q1, 30-26

Cleveland is shooting 54 percent while holding Golden State below 35 percent.

Eight players have already scored for the Cavs, with Donovan Mitchell leading the team with six points and three rebounds.

Pat Spencer leads the Warriors with seven points off the bench.

Thunder Lead Lakers After Q1, 44-21

Oklahoma City came out thunderous in this opening quarter, shooting 63 percent from the field and 64 percent from 3-point range.

They also forced eight turnovers from LA.

Lu Dort leads OKC with 14 points and two steals.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has eight points and four assists.

Pistons Defeat Timberwolves, 113-108

Detroit is now just two wins away from clinching the best record in the Eastern Conference.

An 18-3 run by Detroit in that final frame gave them their largest lead of this game, and Minnesota couldn’t respond after that.

There were seven ties and 11 lead changes in this game. Nobody led by more than eight points until that run by the Pistons.

Dannis Jenkins led Detroit with 26 points, five rebounds and eight assists.

Jalen Duren had 22 points, 14 rebounds and four assists.

Julius Randle led Minnesota with 27 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Hornets Defeat Suns, 127-107

Charlotte outscored Phoenix by 23 points in the second and third quarters to take command of this game.

The Hornets out-rebounded the Suns, 60-40.

Miles Bridges led the way with 25 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Kon Knueppel scored 20 points and broke Kemba Walker’s record for most 3-pointers in a season.

Jalen Green led Phoenix with 25 points, four rebounds and seven assists.

Kon Knueppel Sets Franchise Record for 3-Pointers Made

We saw Colin Gillespie set the Suns franchise record in 3-pointers made earlier in this game, and Knueppel did the same thing for the Hornets.

The rookie now has 261 3-pointers to pass Kemba Walker’s franchise record.

Kemba did look happy on the Hornets bench, though!

Charlotte is up big on Phoenix in the fourth quarter.
