What we know after Thursday’s games

-Charlotte grabs fifth-straight win in a historic rookie showdown against Dallas: The Hornets have now won five straight games after a narrow two-point win over the Mavericks. Cooper Flagg did all he could to carry Dallas, providing a career-high 49 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Kon Knueppel also had a career-high for the Hornets, collecting 34 points, four rebounds and three assists while hitting two game-winning free throws.

-Tyrese Maxey hits a game-winner in Philly’s win over Sacramento: The Sixers point guard is having a breakout season in Philly, hitting a game-winning layup in their 113-111 win over the Sacramento Kings. Maxey finished that game with 40 points, four rebounds and eight assists, while Joel Embiid had 37 points, five rebounds and eight assists.

-Minnesota grabs blowout win over Oklahoma City: The Timberwolves played one of their best games of the season, maintaining a double-digit lead for the final three quarters in a win over the defending champs. They shot 22-for-47 from 3-point range while OKC connected on just 11-for-31.

Top Performers of the Night

-Cooper Flagg collected a career-high 49 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

-Tyrese Maxey tallied 40 points, four rebounds and eight assists while hitting a game-winner in a victory over the Sacramento Kings.

-Dillon Brooks had a career-high 40 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a win over the Detroit Pistons.

-Michael Porter Jr provided 38 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in a revenge game against the Denver Nuggets.

-Kon Knueppel compiled a career-high 34 points, four rebounds and three assists in a win over the Dallas Mavericks.

-Kevin Durant finished with 31 points, five rebounds and four assists in a blowout victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

-Joel Embiid tallied 37 points, five rebounds and eight assists in that win over Sacramento.

Timberwolves Defeat Thunder, 123-111

Minnesota looked extremely motivated against the champs, maintaining a double-digit lead for the final three quarters of this game.

The Timberwolves shot 51 percent from the field and 47 percent from 3-point range.

Anthony Edwards led the way with 26 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led OKC with 30 points, six rebounds and eight assists.

Nuggets Defeat Nets, 107-103

The Nuggets shot 48 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range in this home victory.

Michael Porter Jr fell one point shy of matching his career-high, collecting a season-high 38 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks against his former team.

Jamal Murray led Denver with 27 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Suns Defeat Pistons, 114-96

Phoenix took control of this game with a 72-56 first half.

Dillon Brooks had a career night, finishing with a career-high 40 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Grayson Allen amassed 24 points, two rebounds and five assists.

Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 26 points, three rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Jalen Duren totaled 23 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.

Rookies Go Nuts in Dallas. Hornets Defeat Mavs 123-121

Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel are the frontrunners for Rookie of the Year, and both guys set career-highs in this matchup.

Flagg finished with 49 points, 10 rebounds and three assists but missed a game-tying shot at the buzzer.

Knueppel collected 31 points, four rebounds and three assists.

There were six lead changes in the final quarter, with neither team leading by more than four points.

Miami held the lead for all but a few minutes in this game, with Coby White missing a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to secure the win for the Heat.

The Heat shot 45 percent from the field while holding Chicago below 40 percent.

Bam Adebayo had 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Jaime Jaquez provided 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals off the bench.

Ayo Dosunmu led the Bulls with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists off the bench.

Rockets Defeat Hawks, 104-86

Houston took care of business against a shorthanded Atlanta team, riding a 61-44 second half to their victory.

Kevin Durant led the way with 31 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Reed Sheppard led the bench with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.

CJ McCollum led Atlanta with 23 points, five rebounds and two assists off the bench.

Hornets Lead Mavericks at the Half, 59-58

Charlotte is playing its best ball of the season, entering this matchup amid a four-game winning streak.

They shot 9-for-18 from 3-point range in the opening half.
