The Oklahoma City Thunder are fresh off their first championship and making sure their core players stay in place.

Per multiple reports, the Thunder have agreed to a five-year rookie max extension with All-Star forward Jalen Williams. The deal could be worth up to $287 million and ensure he, reigning Kia MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and young big man Chet Holmgren are in place for seasons to come.

The team officially announced the deal on July 13.

The news of Williams’ reported extension comes a day after Holmgren agreed to his rookie max extension, which is worth up to $240 million itself. It also marks the third major extension for the Thunder since winning the NBA title last month. The other went to Kia MVP, NBA Finals MVP, and reigning scoring champion Gilgeous-Alexander, who received a four-year, $285 million extension.

Williams enjoyed a breakout season in 2024-25, posting a career-best 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 48.4% overall and 36.5% on 3-pointers. He was named to the All-NBA Third Team and was on the All-Defensive Second Team, all while earning his inaugural All-Star nod.

During the Thunder’s run to the 2025 NBA title, he posted 21.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 4.8 apg as well as 1.4 steals per game while shooting 44.9% overall and 30.4% on 3-pointers. He came up strong in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, too, finishing with 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals to seal OKC’s 103-91 victory against the Indiana Pacers.

In securing Williams, Holmgren and Gilgeous-Alexander to deals in the past few weeks, OKC has locked up its young core for the next several seasons. All of the core members of the 2025 title team are under contract for next season, and none will enter free agency until the summer of 2027.
