The San Antonio Spurs and star guard De’Aaron Fox will be sticking together for several more seasons to come.
The eight-year veteran signed a reported four-year, $229 million extension on Monday that will run through the 2029-30 season. Fox, 27, is under contract this season for the final year of his five-year, $163 million deal. The extension, which was confirmed by the Spurs after initial media reports, will begin with the 2026-27 campaign.

Fox said in a team statement he’s driven to add to the Spurs’ championship legacy.
“Just being able to be part of an organization like this … you come in here and you feel that. You feel that in the environment. You feel that in the fans,” Fox said. “And then you go into the practice facility or you go into the arena and you see those banners hanging … there’s nothing you can do besides try to build on that.”
The move was expected after the Spurs made a big splash at the trade deadline last season by getting Fox from the Sacramento Kings. Fox has career averages of 21.5 points and 6.1 assists since entering the league in 2017. He averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games with the Spurs last season.
Fox appeared in 17 games for the Spurs in 2024-25, averaging 19.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds after being acquired by the team on Feb. 3. He had surgery to repair the extensor tendon in his left fifth finger in March and missed the final 18 games of the season.
“What’ll be different going forward is fans will see me play with 10 fingers,” Fox said.
He was injured during training camp in October while he was still with the Sacramento Kings and averaged 23.5 ppg, 6.3 apg and 4.8 rpg in 62 games split between the teams.
Fox was an All-Star and an All-NBA third-team selection in 2022-23 for the Kings. The next season, also with the Kings, he averaged a career-high 26.6 points and led the league in steals.
He is part of a key core with San Antonio and it added to its rich roster by selecting guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The roster is led by All-Stars Victor Wembanyama and Fox. San Antonio also took Carter Bryant, a 6-foot-7 wing from Arizona, with the 14th selection.
Harper and Carter join a team that also includes reigning Kia Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and veterans in Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson. Wembanyama and Castle won back-to-back Kia Rookie of the Year honors for San Antonio.
