Clippers' Max Strus to miss start of season with foot injury

Strus will be reevaluated in 4 weeks after suffering a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot.

Max Strus exited the Clippers’ preseason opener with a foot injury.

LA Clippers guard Max Strus is expected to miss at least four weeks after suffering a right foot injury during the team’s preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday in Hawaii.

Strus exited the game with 7:50 remaining in the first quarter, pulling up with a non-contact injury. He limped off the court and did not return.

On Monday, the team announced that Strus suffered a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot. He will be reevaluated in four weeks, effectively ruling out for the remainder of the preseason and the start of the regular season.

The Clippers open the 2026-27 campaign on Oct. 21 with a home game against the Sacramento Kings. Strus joins fellow offseason acquisition Brandon Ingram (Achilles) among the key Clippers who will be sidelined to open the season.

Strus averaged 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds while appearing in 12 games for the Cavaliers last season after missing the first five months while recovering from a broken left foot. The Clippers acquired Strus from Cleveland on Aug. 20 as part of a five-team trade that also involved Charlotte, Washington, and Denver. The eighth-year pro is in the final season of his four-year contract.
