Cleveland Cavaliers single season assists per game leaders

Check out the single season assists per game leaders in the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise.

LeBron James takes up two of the top five spots in Cavaliers’ history for single season assist leaders.

The Cavaliers have been home to some great facilitators, from Kyrie Irving to LeBron James and back to John Bagley and Mark Price in the 1980s. Read on to see which hoopers have had the best assists per game seasons in franchise history.

Andre Miller – 2002, 10.9 Assists per Game

Miller is one of the most prolific passers in NBA history, ranking 12th on the all-time assists list. He was at the peak of his powers in that regard in 2002 when he became the assists champ by dishing out 10.9 dimes per game. That was a full assist per game ahead of the runner-up, Jason Kidd. Miller had 33 games with at least 10 rebounds and one game with a career-high 22 helpers.

John Bagley  – 1986, 9.4 Assists per Game

Bagley had two seasons that still stand among the Cavaliers’ top 10 APG all-time, including his impressive 1986 campaign. That year, he dished out 9.4 assists per game to finish fourth in the league in that category. Only Magic Johnson, Isaiah Thomas and Reggie Theus outdid him in that category that season.

Mark Price – 1990, 9.1 Assists per Game

Price, like Bagley, claims two of the best seasons in Cavaliers history in terms of assists. His high watermark came in 1990 when he dished out 9.1 assists to go with a career-high 19.6 points per game. He had five games with at least 15 assists, including a 20-assist game in April against the Hawks.

LeBron James – 2018, 9.1 Assists per Game

No Cavaliers list would be complete without a LeBron James entry or two. James was still evolving his game even in Year 15 as he notched a new career-high in assists per game at the time with 9.1. He paired that with 27.5 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game, which ultimately earned him a second-place finish in Kia NBA MVP voting. James and the Cavs would go on to make the NBA Finals and fall to the Warriors.

LeBron James – 2017, 8.7 Assists per Game

James had a major jump in his assist totals in the 2017, bumping his APG figure from 6.8 to 8.7. Prior to that, James had only averaged 8.0 assists per game once in his career, which was in the final season of his first stint in Cleveland. His leap in assists helped him finish sixth in the league in that category. James and the Cavaliers made the NBA Finals for a third straight year and fell to the Warriors in five games.
