Rajon Rondo was the single season assists per game leader for four consecutive seasons.

The Celtics have had a number of iconic floor generals in their storied history that span across different eras. However, two men separated themselves from the rest of the pack in terms of dishing out dimes. Read on to see the five best single season rebounding efforts in Boston Celtics history.


Rajon Rondo – 2012, 11.7 APG

Rondo is the most prolific passer on a per-game basis in Celtics history, having averaged 8.5 assists during his nine-year stint with the club. His best season in that category came in 2012 when he dished out 11.7 dimes per game. That was the first of two assists titles for Rondo while with the Celtics and the first of three in his career. Rondo also added 11.9 points and 1.8 steals per game that season to earn an All-Star nod and All-NBA Third Team honors.

Rajon Rondo – 2011, 11.2 APG

Entering his fifth season, Rondo had already established himself as one of the top facilitators in the game. He had come up just shy of averaging double-digit assists per game in 2010 (9.8) and took it to another level in 2011, jumping to 11.2 assists per game. Rondo finished second in the league in assists per game with Steve Nash narrowly winning the assists crown with 11.4 APG. Defensively, Rondo was a standout as well with 2.3 steals per game while earning First Team All-Defense honors.

Rajon Rondo – 2013, 11.1 APG

Rondo turned in another stellar season in 2013 as he took down the assists crown with 11.1 assists per game. He was named an All-Star for the fourth straight season, and he had 13.7 points per game, which is tied for the most in his career. Rondo had two 20-assist games and seven games of at least 15 dimes.

Rajon Rondo – 2010, 9.8 APG

Rondo had one of his best all-around seasons in 2010 as he earned his first All-Star nod. He averaged 13.7 points and 9.8 assists per game while also racking up a league-leading 2.3 steals per game. Rondo finished fourth in the league in assists behind Steve Nash, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. He had 10 or more assists in 45 of 81 appearances.

Bob Cousy – 1960, 9.5 APG

Cousy’s 9.5 assists per game stood as the Celtics’ franchise benchmark for 50 years until Rajon Rondo averaged 9.8 assists in 2010. Cousy had three of the Celtics’ top 10 assist seasons, with 1960 being his personal best. He not only led the league in assists, but he did so by a wide margin. Guy Rogers’ 7.1 assists per game stood as the second-most APG that season. That shows how Cousy was facilitating on a different level during that era.
