The Atlanta Hawks, Trae Young, has already put his name in the record books for the franchise in terms of his assists per game numbers. Let’s look at the entire Hawks history and highlight their top live leaders in assists per game for a single season.


Trae Young – 2025, 11.6 APG

The Hawks acquired Young in a draft-night trade with the Mavericks in 2018. He finished second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2018-19, averaging 19.1 points and 8.1 assists per game. Since then, Young has averaged at least 24.2 points and 9.3 assists per game in each of the last six seasons. In 2024-25, he led the NBA by averaging 11.6 assists per game. That season, he also made the All-Star team for the fourth time in his career.

Trae Young – 2023, 10.2 APG

When Young averaged 10.2 assists per game in 2022-23, it marked the first time in his career that he averaged double-digit assists for a season. In addition to his gaudy assist contributions, he averaged 26.2 points and 2.1 3-pointers per game. Young appeared in 73 games that season, averaging 35 minutes per contest.

Doc Rivers – 1987, 10.0 APG

The Hawks selected Rivers in the second round of the 1983 Draft. His best assists season came in 1986-87 when he averaged 10.0 of them per game. He appeared in all 82 games that season and also averaged 12.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 steals. That helped him finish eighth in Defensive Player of the Year voting. Rivers spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Hawks, earning his lone All-Star selection as a member of the franchise in 1987-88. Over 568 regular season games with the Hawks, Rivers averaged 13.0 points, 6.8 assists and 2.1 steals.

Mookie Blaylock – 1994, 9.7 APG

Blaylock spent the first three seasons of his career with the Nets. He then went to the Hawks, where he produced some of the best stats of his career. His lone career selection to an All-Star team came in 1993-94. That season, he averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 9.7 assists and 2.6 steals. That helped him be named All-Defensive First Team, finish seventh in Defensive Player of Year voting and 11th in MVP voting. Across 518 regular season games with the Hawks, Blaylock averaged 14.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.6 steals.

Trae Young – 2022 – 9.7 APG

Young had the most efficient shooting season of his career in 2021-22, shooting 46.0% from the field and 38.2% from behind the arc. That helped him average 28.4 points to go along with his 9.7 assists per game. Young made the second All-Star team of his career that season and was selected All-NBA Third Team. Young has spent his entire career with the Hawks, averaging 25.3 points, 9.8 assists and 2.6 3-pointers over 483 regular season games. In the playoffs, Young has averaged 26.4 points, 9.0 assists and 2.6 3-pointers across 27 games.
