Jason Kidd earned All-NBA First Team honors three times while playing for the Suns.
The Phoenix Suns were established in 1968-69. During their franchise history, many of the best players in the NBA have played for the team. Let’s highlight those who earned All-NBA First Team honors while playing for the Suns.
Paul Westphal – 3 Times (1977, 1979, 1980)
Westphal played a total of six seasons over two different stints with the Suns. In 1976-77, he made the All-Star team and was named All-NBA First Team with averages of 21.3 points, 5.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game. In addition to being named All-NBA First Team three times during his career, Westphal made five All-Star teams. Across 465 regular season games with the Suns, he averaged 20.6 points, 5.2 assists and 1.6 steals.
Jason Kidd – 3 Times (1999, 2000, 2001)
Kidd was traded to the Suns during the 1996-97 season. He then played each of the next four seasons with the Suns, making All-NBA First Team in three of them. In all three of those seasons, he led the NBA in assists per game. Over 309 regular season games with the Suns, he averaged 14.4 points, 9.7 assists and 2.1 steals.
Steve Nash – 3 Times (2005, 2006, 2007)
Nash played two seasons for the Suns to begin his career before joining the Mavericks. He then returned to the Suns prior to the 2004-05 season. Not only did he make All-NBA First Team in both of his first two seasons back with the team, but he won the regular season MVP award in both campaigns. He made All-NBA First Team again in 2006-07 and finished second in MVP voting.
Connie Hawkins – 1970
After playing two seasons in the ABA, Hawkins made All-NBA First Team with the Suns in his first season in the NBA. He did so with averages of 24.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Across 311 career games with the Suns, Hawkins averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
Dennis Johnson – 1981
Johnson played the first four seasons of his career with the SuperSonics. The 1980-81 season was his first with the Suns. It couldn’t have gone much better with him averaging 18.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals. He made the All-Star team, was named All-NBA First Team and finished eighth in MVP voting.
Charles Barkley – 1993
Barkley played four seasons with the Suns, the first of which came in 1992-93. He dominated that season, averaging 25.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals. Not only was he named All-NBA First Team, but he also won the MVP award.
Amar’e Stoudemire – 2007
Stoudemire spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Suns, including winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2002-03. In 2006-07, he appeared in all 82 games and averaged 20.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.3 blocks. That resulted in his lone career All-NBA First Team selection.
Devin Booker – 2022
Booker made his third straight All-Star team in 2021-22. That season, he also made All-NBA First Team for the first time in his career with averages of 26.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.7 3-pointers per game. Those averages helped him finish fourth in MVP voting.
