Overview
Zuby Ejiofor arrived at Kansas as a four-star recruit out of Garland High School in Texas, where he averaged 22 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals per game as a senior. His freshman year offered little runway, with 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 5.2 minutes per game across 25 appearances. He entered the transfer portal and landed at St. John’s, where his production climbed every year. As a sophomore he posted 4.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 11.3 minutes per game. He broke out as a junior, putting up 14.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 blocks in 31.9 minutes per game on 58%/22%/71% splits, earning Big East Most Improved Player and First-Team All-Big East honors. As a senior, Ejiofor averaged 16.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.2 blocks in 30 minutes per game on 54%/31%/72% splits, sweeping the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, Big East Player of the Year, Big East Defensive Player of the Year and Big East tournament MVP while leading the Red Storm to consecutive conference titles and their first Sweet 16 in 25 years.

Analysis
Ejiofor’s defense is the skill that has scouts most intrigued. At 6’9″ and 245 pounds with long arms, he moves like a modern big who can defend the point of attack and anchor the paint in the same possession. He stays attached to guards on switches, closes ground on drives with quick recovery and blocks shots at an elite clip. He reads passing lanes and communicates constantly off the ball. On offense, his hands and footwork make him a reliable interior scorer, and he’s great at drawing fouls. Ejiofor can also make plays with solid passing vision. His perimeter shot has room to grow, and his volume from deep has already trended up, which makes him an ascending player rather than a finished product.

Projection
Ejiofor projects as a switchable, connective big who defends multiple positions, attacks the offensive glass and moves the ball better than most players his size. His blend of motor, feel and physicality should translate immediately to an NBA rotation, with plenty of upside if his jumper continues to round into form. He brings the kind of toughness and basketball IQ that coaches build lineups around. Ejiofor draws NBA comparisons to Bam Adebayo, younger Al Horford and Josh Smith. Whichever team lands him will get a plug-and-play contributor who makes winning plays on both ends.
