Overview
Tucker DeVries was named Iowa Mr. Basketball in 2021 and followed in the footsteps of his father, Darian, at Drake. Tucker earned MVC Freshman of the Year honors in 2022, then back-to-back MVC Player of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024, adding a pair of MVC Tournament championships and MVPs. He was also named AP Honorable Mention All-American as a junior. The father-son duo’s success at Drake culminated in a promotion for Darian, who was named coach of West Virginia, but a shoulder injury limited Tucker to eight games in 2024-25. However, he was granted another year of eligibility and followed his father once more to Indiana for his final year of college. As a Hoosier, DeVries was the team’s second-leading scorer and leading rebounder, averaging 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 40/33/81 shooting splits.

Analysis
DeVries’ offensive game is built around craft, feel and shooting touch. His release is quick and high, and he’s comfortable in spot-up situations, coming off screens or pulling up off two feet in the mid-range. He reads the floor well for a wing, makes smart cuts, rarely forces plays and contributes as a passer in a way that doesn’t always show up in the assist column. The concern is that his three-point shooting dipped to a career-low 33.3 percent in the Big Ten. DeVries doesn’t project as a lockdown defender.

Projection
DeVries is a late second-round to undrafted prospect who has a clear NBA archetype as a floor-spacing wing who doesn’t need the ball. Sam Hauser, Duncan Robinson and Max Strus took time to find their footing before becoming reliable rotation pieces, and DeVries has the basketball IQ and shooting stroke to follow a similar path.
