Overview
Tarris Reed Jr. arrived at Link Academy as a four-star recruit and emerged as the team’s leading scorer playing alongside future NBA pros Julian Phillips and Jordan Walsh, earning a top-40 ranking from 247Sports and invitations to both the Jordan Brand Classic and Iverson Classic. The St. Louis native chose Michigan to begin his collegiate career, then transferred to UConn after his sophomore year and immediately won Big East Sixth Man of the Year as a junior. His senior leap was enormous. Reed averaged 14.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.0 blocks in 27.3 minutes per game on 61% from the field, anchoring a UConn team that marched all the way to the National Championship before falling to Michigan. He was named All-Big East First Team, NCAA East Region Most Outstanding Player and earned a spot on the Final Four All-Tournament Team after a 31-point, 27-rebound onslaught against Furman that placed him alongside Elvin Hayes and Jerry Lucas as the only players ever to hit that threshold in an NCAA Tournament game.

Career Highlights

  • 2025-26 All-Big East First Team selection as a senior in his second season at Connecticut.
  • 2026 NCAA East Regional Most Outstanding Player and All-Tournament Team choice.
  • Recorded 31 points and 27 rebounds vs. Furman in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament (March 20).
  • First player to have 30+ points and 25+ rebounds in an NCAA Tournament game since Elvin Hayes in 1968.
  • 2024-25 Big East Sixth Man of the Year as a junior after transferring to UConn following two years at Michigan.

Analysis
At 6-10 and 260 pounds with a long wingspan, Reed plays through contact and finishes above the rim with soft hands. His jump hook is a weapon, and he extends it past point-blank range. The passing leap is what separates him, as Reed has exceptional passing vision for his position. He sets punishing screens and generates attention as a roll man. On defense, he holds position against bigger bodies, protects the rim through timing and length and dominates the glass. His flexibility and motor give him a real foundation to keep growing as a switch defender.

Projection
Reed projects as a rotation center whose floor is anchored by translatable size, rim-finishing gravity and a screen-and-roll game that fits any offense. The passing feel from the post and elbow gives him some upside as an interior hub, and his senior-year polish suggests he is ready to step into a real role from day one. NBA comparisons to Reed can be made to paint bigs like Neemias Queta, Joakim Noah and Andrew Bogut. Whichever team picks Reed gets a Day 1 contributor with the toughness, IQ and skill base to carve out a long career as a starting-caliber big in the right system.
