Overview
Seth Trimble was named Wisconsin Mr. Basketball in 2022 and committed to North Carolina, but didn’t become a star player until his junior season. He capped a four-year college career with a breakout senior season despite missing nine games early in the year due to a broken left forearm he suffered during a practice. Trimble emerged as the Tar Heels’ unquestioned leader and earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors after averaging 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game on 47.1% shooting across 24 appearances. He was a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award and earned ACC and USBWA National Player of the Week honors after hitting a game-winning three-pointer against Duke and dropping a career-high 30 points during a win over Louisville.
Analysis
Defense is Trimble’s calling card and likely his ticket to an NBA roster. He is an elite on-ball defender with advanced footwork, strength and the discipline to cut off driving angles without gambling for steals, committing just 1.8 fouls per game despite his aggressiveness. Offensively, Trimble is a capable scorer at the rim who evolved into a willing playmaker by the end of his career. The concern at the next level is his sporadic perimeter shot, which limits his offensive ceiling.
Projection
Trimble’s elite two-way instincts and four-year college resume give him a realistic path to the NBA, though his projections currently land him in the undrafted range. His defensive profile is reminiscent of a young Cason Wallace, and Trimble’s athleticism should intrigue teams. If the three-point shot develops into even a functional weapon, Trimble has the tools to carve out a long career as a connective two-way guard in the mold of a veteran role player like Gabe Vincent.
