Get to Know Nate Ament

Nate Ament sits down with Lauren Green from NBA TV to discuss the NBA Draft.

Overview
Nate Ament helped Team USA win gold at the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup before finishing his high school career as the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2025 class. A Manassas, Virginia native who transferred to Highland School in Warrenton after his sophomore year, Ament averaged 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 3.7 assists per game as a junior and earned Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year honors as a senior. He was a McDonald’s All-American, Jordan Brand Classic selection and Nike Hoop Summit participant, then committed to Tennessee. As a freshman for the Volunteers, Ament started all 35 games and averaged 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals in 29.7 minutes per game, shooting 40%/33%/79%. Ament earned Second-Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team honors.

Analysis
At 6’10”, Ament handles the ball, makes reads and initiates offense. He gets low on drives and uses his quickness to get past bigger defenders. He also generates plenty of trips to the foul line. Ament is a great passer who can make a variety of plays to set his teammates up. The perimeter shooting has room to grow, but his mechanics are solid, and his high school track record suggests the touch will come. Defensively, his positional size and instincts give him a real foundation.

Projection
Ament’s blend of height, ball-handling, playmaking and foul-drawing ability makes him an enticing prospect. He fits the mold of a modern multi-positional creator who can run pick-and-roll, operate off movement and punish mismatches. Ament’s game at his size can draw comparisons to NBA players like Brandon Ingram and Andrew Wiggins. The shooting will determine where his ceiling lands, but everything else in the toolkit is already translatable.
