Overview
Malique Lewis picked up basketball as a teenager. That late start didn’t slow him down. At 16, he moved to Spain to join Fuenlabrada in the Liga ACB, logging three appearances as a rookie before earning real minutes as a 17-year-old. In May 2023, he dropped 24 points on Obradoiro, the fourth-highest scoring game in ACB history by a player aged 18 or younger. Lewis spent the 2023-24 season with the Mexico City Capitanes in the NBA G League, making 50 appearances while averaging 8.3 points and 5.8 rebounds in over 25 minutes per game. He then joined the South East Melbourne Phoenix as part of the NBL’s Next Stars program and became one of the team’s premier defenders across two seasons in Australia. In 2025-26, he averaged 7.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals in 21.2 minutes per game on 45.2%/37.5%/82.6% shooting splits.
Analysis
Lewis’ calling card at the next level is defensive versatility. With his length, he stays in front of guards with lateral quickness and slides down to contest bigs. He stays disciplined, rarely bites on pump fakes and uses his verticality to alter shots. On offense, he thrives as a cutter and transition finisher, exploding above the rim. His catch-and-shoot mechanics are clean with a high release point, and his improved efficiency from deep in his second NBL season suggests growth as a floor spacer. The handle limits his self-creation for now, but Lewis doesn’t need the ball in his hands to make an impact.
Projection
Lewis has upside as a switchable 3-and-D wing. His combination of length, speed and discipline makes him one of the more pro-ready defenders in this draft class. His shooting trajectory points toward a potential floor-spacing role on offense. NBA comparisons to Lewis can be made to Bilal Coulibaly, Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale. Lewis has the tools to grow into a high-impact rotational wing who defends three or four positions and spaces the floor from the corners.
