Overview
Jaylin Sellers started his collegiate career with two seasons at Ball State, where he was named to the All-MAC Freshman Team, before transferring to UCF. He earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention during his first season with the Knights but missed most of his second campaign due to injuries. He then moved to Providence for his fifth and final year of eligibility. Sellers showed out with the Friars, leading the Big East in scoring with 18.3 points per game on 47%/43%/86% shooting splits while earning Second-Team All-Big East honors.
Analysis
Sellers is a high-volume scorer with the size and shooting touch to thrive in space, which is a key skill in today’s NBA. That was on full display during his 36-point performance against Butler in February, during which he shot 11-for-20 from the field and 6-for-12 from three. His ability to get hot quickly and carry an offensive load was evident at each collegiate spot, but the questions at the next level center on his age, limited playmaking ability and what his role looks like on a winning team.
Projection
Sellers projects as a late second-round or undrafted candidate who will need a strong showing at pre-draft workouts to hear his name called on draft night. His most likely NBA archetype is a shooting specialist who earns minutes as a sparkplug scorer off the bench, in the mold of players like Collin Sexton and Coby White. The five-year college career and Big East scoring title give him credibility, but teams will want to see whether his left-handed jumper translates before committing a guaranteed roster spot.
