Get to Know Jayden Quaintance
Jayden Quaintance sits down with Lauren Green from NBA TV to discuss the NBA Draft.
Overview
A five-star recruit who participated in the McDonald’s All-American Game during his senior year of high school at Word of God Christian Academy in North Carolina, Jayden Quaintance spent his freshman year of college at Arizona State before transferring to Kentucky ahead of his sophomore season. His freshman campaign was cut short after he tore the ACL in his right knee in February 2025, but he returned to action and appeared in four straight outings from Dec. 20 to Jan. 7 last season. Following that stretch, however, he missed the remainder of the season due to a lingering right knee issue. Across 28 collegiate appearances between Arizona State and Kentucky, Quaintance averaged 7.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.0 assists and 0.8 steals in 23.3 minutes per contest.
Analysis
Quaintance is coming off an injury-plagued sophomore season but should have ample time to recover ahead of next season. He’s a strong, athletic big man with a large frame who thrives around the basket. The 18-year-old is most effective inside the paint, where he utilizes his strength, length and athleticism to finish efficiently at the rim. While Quaintance still has room to grow offensively, he possesses significant upside as a rim protector and rebounder. He also uses his length to generate steals.
Projection
Quaintance projects as a defensive-minded big man who can provide a boost on the glass and protect the rim. Still just 18 years old, he has room to expand his offensive game but still figures to contribute on that end thanks to his strength and athleticism. He draws similarities to Jalen Duren, as both players defend the rim and use their athleticism to score inside.
