Analysis
Williams’ best NBA trait is his positional versatility wrapped in an NBA-ready frame. He does a little bit of everything. As a passer, he found cutters and shooters. His three-point stroke reached a new level as a senior, and he’s equally comfortable spotting up or popping out of ball screens. He’s more effective operating off the catch than creating off the dribble, but his midrange touch, post-up ability and pull-up game give him counters when defenses take away the three. Defensively, Williams’ broad shoulders and strength allow him to body up multiple positions, and he forces turnovers at a solid rate. The lateral quickness to stay in front of quicker guards is an area where he has room to grow, but the physical foundation and competitive motor are already there.
Projection
Williams projects as a high-IQ, multi-positional wing whose scoring versatility, three-point shooting and playmaking instincts make him a natural connective piece in an NBA rotation. His ability to screen, pass, shoot and defend across positions gives coaches lineup flexibility that is hard to find. His style of play can draw comparisons to NBA players like Tobias Harris, Royce O’Neale and James Posey.
