Get to Know Caleb Wilson

Caleb Wilson sits down with Lauren Green from NBA TV to discuss the NBA Draft.

Overview
Caleb Wilson arrived in Chapel Hill as a consensus five-star from Holy Innocents’ Episcopal in Atlanta. He earned Mr. Georgia Basketball after leading HIES to its first state championship, capping a senior year in which he put up 21.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.6 blocks and 2.1 steals a night. McDonald’s All-American honors and a Jordan Brand Classic invite followed. As a freshman, Wilson posted 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks in 31.3 minutes per game, shooting 57.8%/25.9%/71.3% across 24 appearances before a fractured thumb ended his year in early March. He was efficient as a scorer inside the arc and was great getting to the free-throw line. The production earned him Consensus Second-Team All-American, First-Team All-ACC and ACC All-Rookie Team honors.

Analysis
Wilson is an explosive athlete. At 6’10”, he skies for lobs, cleans the offensive glass and flies in for weakside blocks. He finishes through contact, carves out space in the post and owns a developing midrange face-up game. His perimeter shot has room to grow into a real weapon, and the free-throw stroke plus clean mechanics from 15 feet suggest the foundation is already there. Defensively, Wilson is a creator who racks up deflections through length and quickness, and the frame still has room to fill out into a true switchable four.

Projection
Wilson profiles as an NBA forward with two-way impact: a vertical lob threat, transition terror, offensive rebounder and help-side shot blocker who can slide up or down a position based on matchup. The shot-creation wrinkles and passing touch out of the post give him a path to a featured role. In terms of style comparisons to NBA players, Wilson shares similarities to Jalen Johnson and Scottie Barnes. Wilson will be an immediate contributor wherever he lands as an explosive playmaker on both ends of the floor.
