Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford suffered a sprained ankle on the first day of training camp, coach Jason Kidd told the media Wednesday.
Gafford will be sidelined for two to three weeks, according to Kidd. The Mavericks open their season vs. the Spurs on Oct. 22 (9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Gafford, who arrived in Dallas ahead of the 2023 trade deadline, has carved out a significant role for himself. Last season, he averaged 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.
He recently signed a three-year contract extension this summer.
