Raptors GM Bobby Webster joins swingman Scottie Barnes in locking down a long-term future in Toronto.
The search for a new president of the Toronto Raptors has resulted in the decision to further extend the contract of General Manager Bobby Webster. Going forward, Webster will lead the team as General Manager with the support of MLSE leadership, MLSE President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Pelley announced Monday. The team will not appoint a president at this time.
“Going through this comprehensive process this summer and meeting with external candidates played a critical role in arriving at this decision as it made clear that we already have the right person leading the Raptors in-house. When we weighed the many considerations, including roster construction, team culture and competitive landscape, it made perfect sense to officially hand the team to Bobby and give him the time and support to allow his plan to develop,” Pelley said.
“After spending time together this summer in Las Vegas, I was very impressed by Bobby’s leadership style, his rapport with the players and staff, his reputation with his peers across the league and – especially and importantly – his vision for the Raptors. This team is his, now, to lead and I know we all look forward to what comes next.”

Webster, 40, is entering his ninth season as General Manager and 13th with the Raptors, and his 21st overall in the NBA. One of the architects of the 2019 Championship team, Webster has led the team’s overall roster building, organizational structure, and day-to-day basketball operations. Before being named general manager in June 2017, he held the titles of assistant general manager and vice-president, basketball management and strategy.
“I’m grateful to Keith, to the board, and to our ownership for this opportunity – the chance to continue the work that I love, for a team, a city, and country that’s become home,” Webster said. “The things that are important to me – a deep love for basketball, thoughtful and empowering leadership, and a competitive fire – are the pillars of who I am as a leader. That’s what you’ll see from me every day. This is a new chapter in Raptors basketball, but one thing that will not change is our passion for winning, and our goal to bring another championship to Toronto.”
A native of Hawaii, Webster came to the Raptors after seven years at the NBA League Office, under the leadership of David Stern and Adam Silver. He worked primarily on the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, and was part of the team that successfully negotiated the 2011 CBA with the National Basketball Players Association. He and his wife Lauren, an entrepreneur and company founder, live in Toronto with their three children.
