Thunder defeat Pistons in overtime

114-110, taking their 15th win in 16 games.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (47 pts) was the offensive leader down the stretch, clinching the game for the Thunder.

“We found a way to pull this one out,” said Gilgeous-Alexander. “I just tried to be aggressive.”

The Pistons were competitive all night, led by Paul Reed (21 pts, 10 reb) and Javonte Green (19 pts, 5 3PM).

Tied at 101, after Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s tie-breaking 3-pointer was waved off for an offensive foul and Daniss Jenkins’ game-winning attempt was just long.

97-90 after a clutch 3-pointer from Daniss Jenkins (13 pts) with 3:59 to go. The Pistons were down 10 at halftime, but have rallied in a 54-37 second half.

Heat on the rise against Sixers

A 15-2 run has the Heat up 82-70 on the Sixers as the third quarter winds down on Peacock.

Miami’s racing up the floor, crashing the glass and using pressure defense to take control of the contest, including denying Joel Embiid easy catches in the midrange.

“They are working every angle to win this game,” Brian Scalabrine said of the Heat.

Bam Adebayo (19 pts) and Embiid (16 pts) are dueling in the pivot, creating what’s been our top one-on-one matchup of the evening so far.

The Sixers’ stars are healthy again

Don’t look now, but Philadelphia has Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George ready to go for a Playoff run.

Watch the balance down the stretch in the Sixers’ 118-114 win over the Hornets on Saturday.

Joel Embiid serves as the backbone of the defense, including swatting LaMelo Ball’s game-tying 3-point attempt in the final seconds. Paul George gets clutch buckets, including a curling 3-pointer in the corner with 1:04 to go to give Philly the lead for good. Maxey orchestrates the offense and draws the free throws that ice the win.

Add in VJ Edgecombe, who defended Ball during this stretch, and Kelly Oubre Jr. — along with fellow versatile wings Quentin Grimes and Justin Edwards — and you have a deep, talented team with elite potential.

The lineup that closed Saturday’s win has played 90 minutes together over six minutes this season, putting up a +6.3 net rating, which would be tied for fifth in the NBA.

As they gel — and potentially find spots for Edgecombe to add some flair and athleticism as a counterpunch — this group could make the 76ers title contenders.
