Another Kings player is reportedly out for the season due to injury.
Just two days after Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine went down for the count, trade acquisition De’Andre Hunter – diagnosed with iritis in his left eye after exiting a game on February 6 – was re-evaluated Friday and underwent surgery for a retinal detachment.
Per the team:
The procedure was performed by Dr. M. Ali Khan at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Roseville, California. Hunter is expected to make a full recovery and an update will be provided in approximately eight weeks.
The 7th-year veteran, who went from Cleveland to Sacramento in a three-team trade Feb. 5, had only been acquired by the Cavaliers a year prior from the Hawks. This season, coming off a campaign that earned consideration as the Kia NBA Sixth Man of the Year. Hunter’s shooting plummeted near his rookie-year career low (41.5% vs. 41.0%) and his 3-point stroke bottomed out at 30.5% – well below the 32.6% mark that previously represented his floor.
He has averaged 13.7 points, 4.1 rebounds in 26.1 minutes across 45 games for the Cavaliers and Kings, 25 of them starts.
It’s a third season-ending surgery for the Kings since the All-Star break, league sources tell @ChrisBHaynes and me, with Hunter joining Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis. https://t.co/tWqmZj7OWT
