Overview

Robinson spent four years at the college level and played for three teams: Texas A&M, Arkansas and BYU. Robinson was limited to just four starts in his first two college years, with Texas A&M and Arkansas, respectively, but his game grew massively once he transferred to BYU ahead of the 2022-23 season. Robinson was a regular starter in just one season (2022-23), though, and he started in just six of his 33 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign. Despite coming off the bench most of the time, Robinson had the best season of his college career in 2023-24, averaging 14.2 points while adding 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game across 33 appearances (six starts). Robinson was named the 2023-24 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year and ranked 14th in points per game in the Conference with 14.2 per tilt.

Analysis

Robinson’s calling card at the NBA level will be his ability to shoot the ball as he was one of the most consistent beyond-the-arc scorers at the college level. Robinson showed through his college career that he can shoot from way beyond the NBA three-point line, but he accompanies that with consistent form and a quick release, which will be essential to thrive in a faster-paced environment compared to the college ranks. He’s more than just a shooter, though, as Robinson also showed decent handles and the ability to cut into the basket. His defense needs to catch up, but he showed decent lateral quickness and quick footwork, which should be enough to be a competent defender at the NBA level. He also made solid reads as an off-ball defender but wasn’t a defensive playmaker.

Projection

Robinson is a shooter, and his NBA potential will likely live and die by his ability to score from beyond the arc at the next level. A comparison might be Buddy Hield, who has made a living in league out of his three-point shooting. Shooters will always have room in the modern game. Robinson has a good chance of being in an NBA rotation for a long time if his scoring ability translates to the next level despite the fact he might not be as advanced in other areas of the game.
